Exciting New 300 MW Solar and Battery Project Set to Transform Zambia’s Copperbelt!

Major Solar Energy Project Set to Boost Zambia’s Power Supply

In an exciting development for Zambia’s renewable energy landscape, GenVision, Tatanga Energy, and AMDG Energy have officially signed an agreement to collaborate on a groundbreaking 300-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic power project. This ambitious initiative, poised to integrate up to 800 megawatt hours (MWh) of battery storage, will be located in the Copperbelt region—one of Zambia’s key economic hubs, just a short 10 kilometers north of Kitwe.

The partnership among these innovative companies marks a significant leap forward in Zambia’s renewable energy sector and illustrates a collective commitment to sustainable development. GenVision, a joint venture between renowned commodities group Glencore and leading renewable energy developer Nvision, will spearhead the project. The company is known for its holistic approach to energy projects, managing the entire lifecycle from development and engineering to financing, construction, and operations, thereby enabling faster delivery of affordable clean energy solutions across the continent.

Tatanga Energy complements this partnership with its extensive experience in renewable energy development throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Having successfully contributed to major initiatives such as the Sable Solar PV Park and Zimbabwe’s foremost wind project, Tatanga brings a wealth of technical and financial expertise to the table. Their robust network of regional and international advisors further strengthens the project’s foundation.

AMDG Energy joins the consortium in alignment with the Zambian government’s proactive approach to bolstering renewable energy investments. The nation’s efforts to close the current power deficit highlight a promising era for industrial growth and sustainable energy practices. AMDG has a strong focus on developing large-scale solar and wind projects, aimed at accelerating the region’s transition toward a sustainable energy future.

The Northern Power Project is set to dramatically enhance the electricity supply in Zambia, not only addressing the existing power shortfall but also fostering economic diversification and supporting stability in the national grid. This project is vital for Zambia’s industrial sector, which relies heavily on a steady and dependable power supply to stimulate growth and job creation.

As this significant initiative moves through its design, permitting, and financing phases, further updates will surely follow, paving the way for a brighter, greener future in Zambia.

Stay tuned for more on this monumental energy development, and how it could impact Zambia’s growth trajectory!
