Bank Windhoek Invests N Million in Community Development: A Commitment to Social Responsibility
In a significant display of corporate social responsibility, Bank Windhoek has announced a remarkable investment of N million in community development over the past financial year. This commitment underscores the bank’s dedication to enhancing education, health, and food security across Namibia. By aligning its resources with the country’s pressing needs, Bank Windhoek continues to demonstrate its role as a cornerstone of social impact in the community.
A substantial portion of the investment—N million—was allocated to the esteemed Capricorn Foundation, a notable entity that has facilitated numerous projects across the nation. An additional N million was committed to key initiatives such as the Cancer Apple Project, the Employee Empathy Project, the Mathematics Training Workshop, and the School Feeding Scheme. These programs collectively aim to uplift and support vulnerable segments of the population.
One of the standout initiatives, the Cancer Apple Project, has proudly raised an impressive N.4 million for the Cancer Association of Namibia over its remarkable 25-year history. In 2025 alone, the project generated N.5 million, which enabled diverse outreach activities including screening 2,210 women during the National Cancer Outreach program and providing essential follow-up support to 372 patients. This initiative’s longstanding impact reflects the bank’s passionate commitment to improving health outcomes in the community.
The School Feeding Scheme, launched in partnership with Imago Dei in July 2023, has seen impressive growth, expanding its reach from 1,600 children to over 2,000 learners in 2025. By addressing food insecurity, the program plays a crucial role in ensuring that children have the nutrition they need to thrive academically and socially.
Moreover, Bank Windhoek recognizes the need for educational improvement, particularly in mathematics. The Mathematics Training Workshop is a direct response to observed challenges in senior secondary education. With nearly 200 teachers from 14 regions, including Kavango East and West, Zambezi, Ohangwena, and Omusati participating, the workshop has had a positive ripple effect, benefiting approximately 7,000 learners.
James Chapman, Managing Director of Bank Windhoek, emphasized the bank’s alignment with Namibia’s national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals. He stated, “Guided by our core values of being open, dedicated, and inspired, we will continue to play a vital role in shaping Namibia’s social and economic landscape.”
In a world where businesses are often measured solely by their financial success, Bank Windhoek sets a commendable example by prioritizing community wellbeing alongside economic growth. As Chapman aptly put it, “We believe organizations should drive economic progress and contribute meaningfully to society.”
Through these initiatives, Bank Windhoek is not just nurturing its corporate image; it is forging pathways toward a brighter future for Namibia.
