“Ballot Verification Success: ECZ and Political Parties Team Up for August 7 By-Elections!”

Exciting Preparations Underway for Zambia's Upcoming By-Elections

By Honester Mshoka

As Zambia gears up for its upcoming by-elections set for August 7, 2025, a wave of anticipation fills the air. The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) collaborates closely with various participating political parties to finalize the critical ballot verification process, ensuring everything is on track for a smooth electoral event. This essential step represents a commitment to transparency and fair play in Zambia’s democratic processes.

The targeted constituencies for these by-elections are Mfuwe, Kashiba Ward in Mpongwe, and Shabo Ward in Nchelenge. The ECZ Corporate Communications Manager, Patricia Luhanga, has publicly affirmed that the verified ballot papers will be dispatched punctually to the respective districts, a foundational move that aims to instill confidence in the voters.

In light of the upcoming elections, Ms. Luhanga urged eligible voters to exercise their democratic rights enthusiastically and participate in the voting process. “Your voice matters,” she emphasized, encouraging Zambians across the board to make their choices count. This call to action comes at a critical time when public engagement in electoral processes is more important than ever.

Representing the United Party for National Development (UPND), member Sitali Lutangu reported that the ballot verification was executed seamlessly, marking a step towards fostering a culture of participatory democracy. Positive collaboration and communication among various parties signify a hopeful and unified electoral environment as Zambians look forward to making their voices heard in the upcoming polls.

On the other hand, Jonathan Phiri, Secretary General of the National Congress Party, reiterated the need for maintained transparency throughout the entire electoral process. His comments highlight the collective desire for integrity and accountability—all fundamental components of a thriving democracy.

As elections approach, the spirit of hope and progress remains palpable in Zambia. Citizens are not just passive spectators but active participants in shaping their governance. With the ECZ’s preparations firmly in place, this by-election holds the promise of reinforcing Zambia’s commitment to institutional integrity and democratic values.

As Zambians await the upcoming elections, the continued dialogue among political parties underscores a shared vision for a prosperous and democratic future.
