Unlocking Creativity: Educators Dive into Exciting Robotics and Coding Bootcamps!

03 Jul 2025

Exciting news on the educational front! This July, the BrainSTREAM Institute of Technology is gearing up to make waves in South Africa with its highly anticipated Robotics and Coding Holiday Camp. Spanning five vibrant cities and reaching over 100 public schools, this initiative promises to ignite creativity and innovation in young minds across the nation.

Mr. Mohit Lohani, the head of education at BrainSTREAM, recently shared his vision for the program. “This isn’t solely about teaching technology; it’s about cultivating curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking,” he emphasized in a recent interview. “Every child should feel empowered to be an inventor, a coder, or a problem-solver. We’re thrilled to bring this initiative to South Africa, a country that has warmly welcomed us.”

The camp is expertly designed for children aged 6 to 14, blending fun and foundational STEM learning. Imagine kids engaging in hands-on activities that encompass robotics, artificial intelligence, animation, coding, and even drone technology! These experiences are crafted to equip participants with essential 21st-century skills that can open doors to a world of opportunities.

Starting at Hillcrest Primary School in Durban from July 4 to 8, the camp will continue its journey to various locations. From July 9 to 12, it lands at the Education Evolution Academy in Norwood, Johannesburg, followed by Morning Star Academy in Vryburg on July 14-15. The excitement doesn’t stop there—the camp will also roll into Aborvitae Academy in Benoni on July 18-19 and conclude at Pink & Blue Preparatory in Pongola, KwaZulu Natal Province, on July 25-26.

Activities for older kids (ages 10 to 14) are particularly thrilling! They’ll get to build remote-controlled robots, create parachutes, design bouncing ball games, explore animation, and even get hands-on with drones. With such a diverse array of activities, children will have the chance to explore their interests and discover potential career paths in technology and engineering.

In the past two years, BrainSTREAM has successfully trained over 100 educators through its HRDC-accredited STEM & Robotics Educator Certification Course. These certified teachers are key players in delivering the camps, ensuring that the knowledge transfer is effective and engaging. Among the inspiring educators is Ms. Tsholofelo Persis Mando, who is not only pursuing her degree in Early Childhood Education but also making STEM a central focus of her teaching journey.

The initiative has garnered endorsement from the Gauteng District Education Department, highlighting its alignment with South Africa’s digital skills and youth empowerment aspirations. This recognition grants BrainSTREAM credibility and solidifies its role as a significant player in the educational landscape.

As BrainSTREAM expands its footprint in Southern Africa, it showcases Botswana’s leadership in EdTech and opens new avenues for innovative education. With the next educator training cohort set for August 18 to 23 in Gaborone, interest is growing among teacher unions and the Ministry of Education, ensuring that this movement continues to thrive.

In a world where technology rules, initiatives like BrainSTREAM’s Robotics and Coding Holiday Camp are not just beneficial; they are essential for shaping future innovators. This initiative reflects a commitment to empowering the next generation, and with its strong momentum, it’s just the beginning of what’s possible. Stay tuned as we follow this exciting journey unfold across South Africa!
