Carving a Career in Nature

In the heart of Windhoek, a dynamic entrepreneur is making waves in the world of landscape design. Meet Zambo Mweti, the visionary behind Bushveld Landscape Consulting, a venture he launched in 2024 with a mission to transform outdoor spaces into stunning extensions of clients’ homes. His story is one of passion, dedication, and a deep-rooted love for nature.

From his formative years, Mweti nurtured a fascination with the natural world. Following his graduation from Jan Möhr Secondary School in 2017, he took the bold step of pursuing his dreams by studying landscape design, horticulture, and advanced irrigation systems at Lifestyle College in Johannesburg. By 2023, he emerged with certificates in these disciplines, armed with a wealth of technical expertise and a broader understanding of sustainable practices in design.

Upon returning to Namibia, Mweti wasted no time in putting his skills to use by establishing Bushveld Landscape Consulting. His business is revolutionizing outdoor aesthetics, focusing on creating multifunctional spaces that harmonize ornamental plants with structural elements. “Every garden is a unique canvas,” he explains, emphasizing his commitment to tailoring each design to fit individual client preferences. So far, he has successfully completed five garden projects and is involved in an exciting aquaculture initiative with a prominent stakeholder.

Mweti’s workspace is as inspiring as his projects. He operates in a creative haven filled with drawing boards, soothing melodies, and essential tools of the trade. Often, he steps outside the confines of his studio for inspiration, finding creative spark in local spots like Zoo Park or even his own garden. Drawing from the legacies of landscape legends, such as André Le Nôtre, the creator of the iconic Gardens of Versailles, and British horticulturist Monty Don, Mweti believes that creativity knows no bounds and can stem from the simplest of environments.

Looking ahead, Mweti envisions establishing a training institute dedicated to the fields of landscape design and horticulture in Namibia. This institute would serve as a hub for diversifying technical training, bridging the realms of architecture, construction, mathematics, and art. His advice to aspiring designers is both poignant and motivational: “Life’s journey is non-linear, filled with challenges that shape character. Embrace mistakes, forgive yourself, and keep pursuing your dreams.”

As Zambo Mweti continues to blaze trails in landscape architecture, he stands as a beacon of inspiration for many in Namibia and beyond. His journey not only reflects personal growth but also contributes significantly to the appreciation and transformation of natural beauty in urban spaces.
