“Breaking New Ground: First Alpha Kappa Alpha Chapter Launches in the UK!”

In a momentous occasion for both the sorority and the global community, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. has successfully charted its first chapter in the United Kingdom. This historic milestone was celebrated on Friday with the inauguration of the Alpha Delta Alpha Omega Chapter in London, marking the sorority’s 19th chapter in its international mission to uplift communities. The chapter comprises 25 remarkable professional women representing fields such as real estate, finance, medicine, and business.

Expressing their excitement, the sorority remarked on social media, “History has been made across the pond!” This statement captures the celebratory spirit and the significance of establishing a presence for the sorority in a new country. As the Alpha Delta Alpha Omega Chapter officially comes to life, their commitment to community service remains at the forefront of their mission.

More on the UK’s first AKA chapter

Before they garnered official recognition as an AKA chapter, this dedicated group was known as the Royal Pearl Society. Over the past year, they collaborated with numerous local organizations to make an impactful difference in their communities. Their initiatives have been nothing short of inspiring; they distributed 350 Childhood Hunger Power Packs, prepared over 200 Blessing Bags filled with essential items, and even facilitated an eight-week entrepreneurship training program aimed at empowering women. Investing over £3,000 in Black-owned businesses and volunteering more than 200 hours showcase their unwavering commitment to social responsibility and community betterment.

“These women are already making an enormous difference in and around London,” said Carrie J. Clark, AKA’s International Regional Director. “They are an amazing group of servant leaders who I am confident will expand Alpha Kappa Alpha’s legacy of service in the Greater London area for years to come.” This sentiment reinforces the belief that local efforts have global implications, particularly in fostering supportive environments for women and children.

Looking ahead, the Alpha Delta Alpha Omega Chapter plans to continue its legacy of service by organizing activities that highlight literature, education, and professional development. Upcoming initiatives include distributing children’s books written by African American authors and gathering professional attire for women re-entering the workforce. Their dedication is bound to inspire others around the globe.

A Tradition of International Impact

While sororities are traditionally seen as an American institution, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority has been breaking barriers since its inception. The organization’s commitment to international outreach dates back several decades. The first chapter outside the U.S. was established in Liberia in 1954, with further expansions into Nassau, Bahamas, in 1963; the U.S. Virgin Islands in 1978; and Germany in 1979. Other international chapters are currently thriving in Japan, South Korea, Canada, South Africa, and beyond.

In addition to fostering sisterhood globally, the organization has led significant initiatives such as poverty alleviation in sub-Saharan Africa, post-apartheid school construction in South Africa, and humanitarian missions aimed at improving the lives of women and children in Liberia. Today, Alpha Kappa Alpha counts over 365,000 members spread across 13 countries and territories.

This new chapter in the UK is a promising step forward for Alpha Kappa Alpha as they continue to redefine sisterhood and service on a global scale. As they embark on their journey in London, one can only anticipate the meaningful impact they will have in their community and beyond.
