Celebrate Excellence: New Awards Unveiled to Recognize Outstanding Staff Dedication!

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi has recently unveiled an exciting initiative aimed at recognizing and celebrating the hard work and dedication of its staff. The newly launched Registrar’s Office Excellence Awards Scheme is designed to honor those who go above and beyond in their contributions to the university community.

With the inspiring theme “Recognizing Excellence for Higher Productivity,” the awards pay tribute to three influential former registrars whose legacies continue to illuminate KNUST’s path. The awards include:

The Saint Oswald Gyimah-Kessie Award for Leadership: This accolade recognizes outstanding leadership and strategic foresight.
The Sophia Quarshie-Sam Award for Service: Named after the first female registrar at KNUST and in any Ghanaian university, this award celebrates exceptional service and dedication.
The Kobby Yebo-Okrah Award for Creativity and Innovation: Honoring the late Mr. Yebo-Okrah, this award acknowledges transformative contributions to university administration through creativity.

In addition to these recognized categories, the scheme also includes awards such as the Junior Achiever Award, People’s Choice Award, and the Registrar’s Recognition Award, creating a comprehensive system to highlight various forms of excellence.

Mr. Andrews Kwasi Boateng, the current KNUST Registrar, expressed enthusiasm about the awards, emphasizing their role in meeting both the personal and institutional goals for improvement and excellence in service delivery. His vision seeks to foster a culture where hard work is recognized, encouraging staff to fully engage in the initiative for the betterment of the university.

Amongst the dignitaries present, Mrs. Sophia Quarshie-Sam praised the award’s inception and encouraged all staff members to aspire to excellence. She also paid homage to Mr. Kobby Yebo-Okrah’s legacy, emphasizing the importance of remembering those who have shaped the university.

Mrs. Mary Yebo-Okrah, representing her late husband’s family, added her voice in support of the awards, highlighting the significance of recognizing the often-unseen efforts of all staff contributing to KNUST’s success.

The event was graced by the KNUST Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, who paid tribute to the former registrars’ contributions. She emphasized the importance of acknowledging the foundational work laid by past leaders, stating, “Any human institution that cannot recognize the foundation laid by its heroes does not deserve to ask others to do more.”

Through this by celebrating excellence, KNUST is not only reinforcing its commitment to a culture of recognition; it is also paving the way for greater institutional growth and innovation. This initiative represents a new chapter for KNUST, one where every effort is valued, and every achievement celebrated, ensuring that the name of KNUST continues to shine on the global stage.

As we look forward to the future of education, let’s keep our eyes on the inspiring developments coming from KNUST.
