Samia Commits to Boost Teachers’ Benefits with Bold New Education Policy: Honoring the ‘Mothers of All Professions’!

President Samia Suluhu Hassan Champions Teacher Welfare in Tanzania

In a significant move to uplift the teaching profession, Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has vowed to revisit the benefits afforded to educators, celebrating them as the “Mothers of all Professions.” This announcement came during her speech in Dodoma on February 1, 2025, marking the launch of the updated Education and Training Policy (2014, 2023 Edition).

President Samia’s remarks underscore the critical role teachers play in shaping the future of the nation. “We will revisit the benefits for teachers, to ensure they receive the respect and recognition they deserve as the foundation of all professions,” she stated emphatically. This renewed commitment to appreciation is not just a feel-good message; it’s a clarion call for a comprehensive reassessment of how society values education and educators.

The new policy aims to enhance Tanzania’s educational infrastructure significantly. To implement this vision, President Samia urged the President’s Office Regional Administration and Local Governments (PO-RALG) to develop a detailed plan that will facilitate growth and improvement in educational standards. The President emphasized a collaborative approach, stating, “The success of this policy depends on collective action. Children must attend school, parents must ensure they stay on track, and the government must oversee the quality of education while elevating the teaching profession.” This community-centric perspective highlights the importance of shared responsibility in fostering an environment conducive to learning.

Financial investment will be paramount for the success of this ambitious initiative. President Samia encouraged her team to pursue necessary funding while also tapping into domestic resources. “I have encouraged the Minister to move forward, trusting that we will find the resources we need. However, the key to success lies within our own country—boosting domestic revenue collection,” she noted. She also called for increased accountability in tax practices, urging citizens to always ask for a receipt when purchasing goods and provide one when selling.

This initiative reflects Tanzania’s commitment to not only improving educational outcomes but also recognizing and rewarding those who dedicate their lives to teaching future generations. As we stand at this crossroads in education, the nation looks forward to seeing how these plans unfold and to witnessing the positive changes that will emerge for both teachers and students.
