Discover Egypt’s Culinary Power: Seven Must-Try Restaurants Shine on the Middle East’s Best List!

Egypt has long been celebrated as a culinary gem, steeped in rich history and vibrant flavors stemming from centuries-old traditions. Today, a new chapter in Egyptian gastronomy is unfolding, as a slew of restaurants is gaining international acclaim for their innovative approaches to classic dishes. In fact, seven Egyptian establishments have proudly secured their spots on the prestigious Middle East & North Africa’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 list, showcasing the country’s culinary evolution from the ancient sands of Giza to the bustling streets of Cairo.

At the helm of this exciting movement is Khufu’s, which clinched the impressive No. 4 ranking and earned the title of Best Restaurant in Egypt. Nestled within the iconic Giza Pyramid Complex, dining at Khufu’s offers a truly one-of-a-kind experience where patrons can enjoy meals beneath the watchful gaze of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Under the creative direction of Executive Chef Mostafa Seif, the menu takes inspiration from his roots in the fertile Nile Delta. He reimagines traditional dishes like molokhia (Jew’s mallow) and feteer (Egyptian pastry), transforming them into modern culinary masterpieces that connect historical flavors with contemporary dining.

The dining scene in Cairo is also making waves, particularly with innovative takes on Japanese cuisine. Reif Kushiyaki Cairo, making its mark at No. 47, showcases the expertise of Dubai-born chef Reif Othman. Known for its lively ambiance and robatayaki—traditional Japanese open-fire grilling—this hotspot has quickly garnered a loyal following among food enthusiasts.

Another culinary gem is Izakaya, ranked No. 34, which beautifully blends Japanese and Peruvian flavors through the Nikkei cuisine style. Chef Martín Rodriguez artfully crafts dishes featuring locally sourced Nile fish, creating delightful interpretations of classic recipes, including the popular tiradito.

In the upscale neighborhood of New Cairo, Kazoku secured the No. 24 spot on the list, shining with its contemporary sushi offerings and innovative dishes like miso-glazed lamb chops, brilliantly crafted by chefs Othman and Mostafa Gabr. Meanwhile, the Sachi restaurant group is making a strong statement, with Sachi Cairo at No. 27 and its sibling Sachi Giza at No. 40. The original Sachi is famed for introducing reservation-only dining, with shareable plates that keep diners coming back for more, while Sachi Giza offers a spectacular space and a menu that artfully combines Middle Eastern spices with European techniques.

No exploration of Egypt’s culinary landscape would be complete without a nod to Zooba, which secured the No. 21 position. This beloved establishment reinterprets Egyptian street food classics, presenting dishes like ful medames (stewed fava beans) and taameya (Egyptian falafel) in a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere adorned with nostalgic Egyptian memorabilia.

As Egypt embraces this culinary renaissance, locals and visitors alike are rediscovering their favorite dishes through a modern lens. Traditional staples, from koshari to kebabs, are being transformed into innovative dining experiences that celebrate the country’s rich gastronomic heritage. With every plate telling a story, the future of Egyptian cuisine looks brighter than ever.
