In Memory of a Community Champion: Manick Mpunwana
The community of Bela-Bela is mourning the loss of a beloved leader, Councilor Manick Mpunwana, whose dedication and service left an indelible mark on the local municipality. As a valued member of the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus), Mpunwana dedicated his life to improving the lives of his constituents, embodying the spirit of community service that many aspire to.
The sentiments flooding in from fellow council members and community members reflect deep respect and admiration for Mpunwana’s work. The Bela-Bela Local Municipality expressed their condolences, stating, “May the family, friends, and colleagues be comforted during this difficult time. Cllr Mpunwana was a dedicated servant leader whose life was solely devoted to the betterment of his community. His leadership and impactful contributions within the Bela-Bela Council will be greatly missed.”
Since joining the FF Plus on April 21, 2020, Mpunwana’s commitment to uplift not just his neighborhood but the entire Bela-Bela community was evident. His fellow council member, JeeDee Cloete, paid a heartfelt tribute, reflecting on their camaraderie and shared vision for a better community: “It is with great sadness I acknowledge the passing of my colleague and friend. Manick stood by my side as my right-hand council, always offering unwavering support and dedication.”
Mpunwana was known for his relentless advocacy for the underprivileged, ensuring their voices were heard in local governance. He placed the needs of others above his own, illustrating his compassion and integrity.
As his family navigates this profound loss, Cloete noted, “Your father was a man of great integrity, compassion, and strength – his legacy of service and commitment will live on in the lives he touched.” Mpunwana’s contributions have made a transformative impact on the FF Plus, not only in Bela-Bela but across South Africa.
In honor of his life and legacy, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 13, giving the community an opportunity to celebrate the remarkable individual Mpunwana was, as well as the principles of leadership and service he championed.
