Discover Who’s Who: Tinubu Appoints 72 Leaders to Transform 12 River Basin Development Authorities!

In a significant move towards revitalizing Nigeria’s water management infrastructure, President Bola Tinubu has officially approved the reconstitution of the Executive Management teams of 12 River Basin Development Authorities. This strategic decision falls under the purview of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, signaling a commitment to improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of these organizations.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, a media aide to the President, it was emphasized that the 72 newly appointed individuals are expected to leverage their extensive experience to enhance the operations of these vital bodies. “The administration is dedicated to improving the lives of citizens,” the statement read, underlining the government’s commitment to addressing water resource management issues that have long plagued various regions in Nigeria.

This overhaul comes at a critical time, as effective water management is crucial not only for agricultural productivity but also for the overall economic development and sustainability of the nation. The River Basin Development Authorities play a pivotal role in harnessing water resources, ensuring that both urban and rural communities have access to adequate water supply for consumption, agriculture, and industry.

Among the newly appointed team members is Hon. Odebunmi Olusegun, who has been designated as the Chairman of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, which services the regions of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, and Osun. Other notable appointments include Engr. Dr. Adedeji Ashiru as Managing Director and several Executive Directors responsible for finance, planning, agriculture, and engineering.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with various environmental challenges, the reallocation of leadership within these authorities is a proactive approach to guaranteeing that water resources are managed sustainably. This not only aligns with global best practices but also with Nigeria’s Vision 2050 for enhanced resilience to climate change.

Stay tuned for updates on the initiatives and programs these appointees will implement as they embark on their journey to transform waterways management in Nigeria. This is a story to watch, as it impacts agriculture, economic growth, and social development across the nation.
