With Thabang Monare currently on national duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, he could have more good news coming his way before the end of the season at his club side, Orlando Pirates.

The midfielder, who had a bright start to the season with regular game-time, is seen by some as a surprise inclusion in Hugo Broos’ 23-man squad that travelled to Ivory Coast. Prior to his latest call-up, the 34-yearold had last played for Bafana Bafana almost two years ago, in an international friendly against France in March 2022.

The Embalenhle-born star came on as a second-half substitute for Sphephelo Sithole last Sunday as the national team defeated Namibia 4-0 at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium for his first appearance in this year’s Afcon.
