Rising Star Claims Coveted 2024 GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize in Thrilling Competition!

In an inspiring showcase of innovation and determination, Dr. Mohammed Faried has made headlines after being announced as one of the grand prize winners of the prestigious GoGettaz Agripreneurs Prize Competition, held recently at the Africa Food Systems Forum in Kigali, Rwanda. The situation underscores the vibrant potential of Africa’s startup landscape, especially in the agritech sector. Representing Kodu Technology, of which he is the CEO and Co-Founder, Dr. Faried’s invention—Kodu Pad—drew significant attention for its eco-friendly approach to menstrual health.

Kodu Pad is not just any sanitary pad; it’s a pioneering product crafted from agricultural waste, specifically harnessing the fibers of bananas and plantains. This sustainable alternative not only prioritizes environmental well-being but also offers a healthier choice for users compared to traditional sanitary products. Dr. Faried’s entrepreneurial acumen shone through during his pitch, earning him a remarkable reward of USD 50,000, which he plans to invest in scaling his innovative solution.

The competition was fierce, with around 2,000 applications from young agripreneurs across Africa. Out of these, 12 finalists from 11 different nations were selected—a testament to the sheer talent and ingenuity present in the continent. Dr. Faried’s journey to this milestone began during his engagement with the AgriTech Classic Challenge at the Kosmos Innovation Center, where he underwent extensive capacity-building sessions and mentorship programs that honed his skills and innovated Kodu Pad.

With a bright outlook for Kodu Technology, Dr. Faried and his team are eagerly tackling the next phase, which includes refining their banana fiber extraction process—a crucial aspect of their production chain. “The support we’ve received has been invaluable, and we’re excited about the impact we can create in the agricultural sector,” Dr. Faried stated with optimism.

This achievement not only highlights the promising future for Kodu Technology but also emphasizes the role of organizations like the Kosmos Innovation Center in fostering young talent in Africa. Their commitment to nurturing innovators showcases the transformative potential within Africa’s agricultural ecosystem.

The GoGettaz Africa initiative, co-founded by Yara International and the Econet Group, identifies and supports aspiring young agribusiness entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35. Through investment and leadership opportunities, it empowers these trailblazers to revolutionize the agrifood landscape across the continent.

As Africa continues to lead in agritech innovation, Kodu Pad stands as a beacon of sustainability and entrepreneurial spirit. We can undoubtedly look forward to seeing how Dr. Faried’s groundbreaking work leads to a healthier, greener future.
