China Boosts Friendship with Egypt by Investing M in Collaborative Projects!

Cairo, Egypt – September 5, 2024: A significant development in Egypt-China relations took place recently as Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Zhao Leji, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China, to announce a generous grant. China has committed to providing Egypt ¥100 million (approximately million) to support various joint development initiatives, a move that highlights the strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

The meeting occurred during Madbouly’s attendance at the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC), an essential platform fostering collaboration between African countries and China. Prime Minister Madbouly took the opportunity to commend China for its impressive achievements in construction and urban development, reaffirming its status as a crucial partner in tackling global challenges, particularly in this era of economic transformation.

The relationship between Egypt and China is celebrating a decade of strategic cooperation, marked by the recent discussions, in which Zhao emphasized the importance of this partnership. The Egyptian Prime Minister underscored the vital role of parliamentary collaboration in enhancing their strategic alliance and reiterated Egypt’s commitment to fostering a favorable environment for Chinese businesses.

Recent months have seen a noteworthy escalation in bilateral cooperation. In July, Egypt solidified its intentions to deepen ties by signing three key memorandums of understanding with the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA). This commitment is poised to pave the way for innovative projects and investments over the coming years.

The financial landscape between these two countries reflects growing confidence, with Chinese foreign direct investments (FDI) in Egypt increasing from 3.4 million in FY2021/2022 to an impressive 6.7 million in FY2022/2023, as reported by the Central Bank of Egypt. In 2023, cumulative investments reached around billion, including significant contributions to major projects like the New Administrative Capital and the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

Trade is also booming, with Egypt’s exports to China amounting to million in May 2024, while imports reached approximately .1 billion, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

This latest development not only illustrates the commitment from China towards African partnerships but also highlights Egypt’s strategic initiatives to foster sustainable economic growth. By leveraging this support, Egypt aims to amplify its presence in the global market while enhancing bilateral relations with one of its most important allies.
