“Exciting Milestone: New 60MW Solar and Energy Storage Hybrid Project Achieves Financial Close in Mauritius!”

Qair Secures Funding for Groundbreaking Renewable Energy Project in Mauritius

In an exciting development for renewable energy in Africa, Qair, an Independent Power Producer (IPP), has successfully closed a loan to finance a significant 60MW hybrid solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Mauritius. This initiative is poised to play a crucial role in the island nation’s push towards sustainable energy. As a part of its ambitious plans, Mauritius aims for 60% of its electricity to come from renewable sources by the year 2030—an ambitious yet commendable target.

The announcement comes on the heels of Qair being awarded four hybrid solar + BESS projects, collectively amounting to 60MW, marking a significant step in advancing the energy landscape of Mauritius. The successful funding will enable Qair to begin implementation right away, thus contributing to the country’s renewable energy goals.

Rita Gujadhur, the Officer-in-Charge of SBM Bank, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “The financing of Stor’Sun I and II is a pivotal moment in our journey toward a robust energy infrastructure. This partnership is vital not only for financial backing but also for our shared mission of fostering a sustainable and resilient energy framework for Mauritius.” She emphasized the importance of integrating renewable energies into the national grid, enhancing its stability and reliability.

But Qair’s ambitions stretch well beyond the shores of Mauritius. The company is engaged in developing and operating renewable energy assets across several African countries, including Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Morocco, and Seychelles, focusing on a diverse mix of solar, wind, and hybrid solutions. Currently, Qair operates 65MW throughout the continent, with an additional 154MW in the pipeline, demonstrating a solid commitment to clean energy development across Africa.

As nations worldwide increasingly prioritize sustainable energy solutions, initiatives like this one in Mauritius spotlight the continent’s burgeoning role in the global green energy transition.

For those following the green revolution, Qair’s endeavor serves as a beacon of hope and progress for the energy future of not just Mauritius, but also for other African nations looking to harness renewable resources efficiently.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to track the development of renewable energy projects across Africa!
