In an exciting development for the mining sector in Africa, Sovereign Metals (ASX:SVM) has recently unveiled that its flagship Kasiya Rutile-Graphite Project in Malawi will utilize revolutionary conventional dry mining techniques. This announcement comes as part of the company’s insightful Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS), paving the way for a more efficient and environmentally friendly mining operation.
In 2024, Sovereign successfully conducted pilot trials demonstrating the viability of dry mining methods, which require no drilling, blasting, crushing, or milling. This streamlined approach offers greater operational flexibility and minimizes environmental impact, aligning perfectly with the increasing global demand for sustainable practices in resource extraction. By reducing the need for heavy machinery and destructive methods, the Kasiya Project is leading the way for modern mining practices.
The project will feature a substantial mining fleet designed to maintain operations for an impressive 25 years. Initially, 36 units, ranging from draglines and large excavators to articulated dump trucks, will be deployed and scaled up to 81 units as operations peak.
