Celebrating Excellence in Nursing: UPMC Nurses Receive DAISY Awards
In a heartwarming tribute to exceptional healthcare, UPMC Williamsport has recently honored three outstanding nurses with the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Joe Niklaus, RN from UPMC Williamsport, Mitchel Petersen, BSN from UPMC Muncy, and Tiffany Rupert, RN from UPMC Home Healthcare of Central Pennsylvania and Family Hospice, exemplify the dedication and compassion that defines the nursing profession.
Nominations for these awards come directly from patients, their families, and colleagues, shining a spotlight on the crucial role nurses play in the healing process. The accolades are presented monthly to deserving nurses within the UPMC North Central Pennsylvania network, affirming the impact of their unwavering commitment to patient care.
Every DAISY Award Honoree receives a DAISY Award pin, a certificate of honor, and a beautiful stone sculpture titled “A Healer’s Touch,” crafted by skilled artists from Zimbabwe. This unique piece serves as a reminder of the profound influence nurses have on their patients’ lives.
One nominee, Joe Niklaus, received heartfelt praise from a patient’s family member. During a nine-day hospitalization, Niklaus’s thoroughness and kindness stood out. The family member noted, “Joe explained my dad’s discharge plan clearly and even took the time to call me for further clarification. He even personally ensured my dad was transported swiftly to our car, alleviating his anxiety. Our family felt so fortunate to have Joe as our nurse.”
Mitchel Petersen earned accolades for his compassionate care. One grateful patient shared that Petersen’s encouragement was pivotal during their hospital stays, stating, “His support kept me motivated, and when I was back in the hospital recently, I was thrilled to show him my progress. Tiffany Rupert made a significant impact through her hospice care.
