A New Era of Safety and Brightness: Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly Takes Action!
In an exciting development for residents of the Greater Accra Region, the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly has announced a significant upgrade to local security and lighting infrastructure. Over 1,500 streetlights are set to illuminate the streets, enhancing safety and improving the overall quality of life for communities in the municipality. This announcement was made by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Kalamu Musah Adamu, during a town hall meeting at Sakaman last Tuesday, a gathering that brought together residents and local leaders from various neighborhoods including Tsuimami, Odorkor, Otaten, Sakaman, and Awoshie.
This initiative is not only about brightening up the streets; it’s part of a larger strategy to involve residents actively in the governance process. Under Section 40 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), the assembly is committed to fostering community participation in addressing local challenges. This engagement is vital for a thriving democracy and reinforces the connection between the assembly and its constituents.
During the meeting, Mr. Adamu emphasized the importance of community engagement in safety and security initiatives. The assembly is introducing neighborhood watchdog committees aimed at bolstering security across the municipality. This proactive approach highlights the assembly’s commitment to addressing developmental challenges on an electoral area basis, ensuring that residents’ voices are heard and their needs prioritized.
Concerns raised by attendees—comprising unit committee members, traders, women, and youth groups—centered on critical issues such as poor roads, drainage systems, and unemployment. By directly addressing these concerns, the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly is taking meaningful steps to enhance the living conditions of its residents.
With 14 distinct electoral areas, including Amoanaa, Nyamekye, East and West Darkuman, Kwashieman, and others, the assembly’s outreach efforts promise to touch the lives of many. The commitment to improve infrastructure and community safety is setting a positive tone for the future of the municipality.
