A Celebratory Milestone: Over 3,800 Graduates from the University of Namibia Celebrate Achievements in Style
In a vibrant display of accomplishment, the University of Namibia (UNAM) welcomed over 3,800 graduates from across its campuses to celebrate their educational achievements this year. The graduation ceremonies are set to take place over two exciting days in the capital, serving as a fitting backdrop to honor the hard work and dedication of these future leaders.
This year’s cohort has completed their studies in diverse fields, ranging from law and economics to accounting and business. Notably, around 70% of the graduates are women, with many earning accolades for their outstanding academic performance. Their achievements further underscore a powerful message echoed throughout the ceremonies: “The future is female.” This celebration of women’s empowerment highlights the significant strides being made toward gender equality in higher education.
Vice Chancellor of UNAM, Professor Kenneth Matengu, offered heartfelt congratulations to the graduates, urging them to pursue continual growth and excellence. He shared an inspiring message: “As you move forward, I encourage you to strive for excellence, to challenge yourself, and to never stop learning. Remember that the knowledge and skills you have acquired here are not just for your personal benefit but also for the society as a whole.”
Chancellor and former President Nangolo Mbumba reinforced the transformative power of education, stating, “You have earned your respect, which will shape your life and the path that lies ahead of you. Education is not only a key to future success and a passageway to opportunities; it becomes a part of you.” His words resonated with the graduates, reminding them of the lifelong journey that lies ahead.
Among the graduates, the excitement was palpable. Toscia Sem reflected on her journey, sharing, “This is just the first step, to be honest. So from here, it’s just up.” Her sentiments were echoed by fellow graduate George Kajundeka, who described his experience at UNAM as focused yet enjoyable. “It was very interesting, honestly. It was not as difficult because I was really focused and I knew what I wanted,” Kajundeka explained.
As these young professionals prepare to enter the workforce or pursue further studies, their achievements not only mark personal milestones but also contribute to the socio-economic development of Namibia.
