Lagos State Takes Bold Steps Towards Universal Health Coverage with New Health Agents

In a significant move towards achieving Universal Health Coverage, the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has introduced a new cadre of certified ILERA EKO marketing and sales agents. This initiative aims to enhance health insurance enrollment across Nigeria’s bustling economic hub, marking an essential step in improving healthcare accessibility for all Lagosians.

On Wednesday, a vibrant certification ceremony held in Lagos celebrated the induction of 99 new professionals into the health insurance fold. This group comprises 25 fresh marketing agents and 74 sales agents tasked with the vital role of connecting citizens with affordable healthcare options. The event not only underscored the commitment of LASHMA to improve healthcare access but also highlighted the agency’s innovative approach to expanding public knowledge on health insurance services.

Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, the Permanent Secretary of LASHMA, addressed attendees, emphasizing how these agents would play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between residents and the healthcare services they need. “Our government is devoted to ensuring that no one is left behind as we strive for accessible and affordable healthcare for every individual,” she remarked during the ceremony.

Dr. Zamba highlighted the crucial impact of these newly trained agents in the success of the ILERA EKO Social Health Insurance Scheme. “Their efforts will contribute to fostering a culture of preventive healthcare and fortifying our healthcare financing model,” she noted, asserting that the goal is to ensure that every Lagosian, regardless of their financial situation, has access to necessary medical services.

The ILERA EKO Social Health Insurance Scheme doesn’t stop at mere financial protection for medical expenses; it is designed to educate the public, boost awareness, and facilitate easier access to healthcare. The agents, who are the inaugural graduates of the ILERA EKO Academy, represent a pioneering approach to training professionals in health insurance marketing. Each agent is expected to uphold high standards of service, integrity, and professionalism, ensuring that the community can trust their guidance and support.

As Lagos continues its journey toward improved healthcare accessibility, initiatives like these demonstrate a promising commitment to fostering a healthier society. Whether you’re a resident or a visitor, innovations in health insurance and healthcare access are sure to make Lagos a brighter place for all.
