Ackermans Connect: South Africa Welcomes New Standalone Cellular Stores

TechSmart Business News sponsored by the Huawei Global Developer Programme

In an exciting development for tech-savvy shoppers in South Africa, leading retailer Ackermans has officially launched its first standalone cellular stores, aptly named Ackermans Connect. With two locations now open in the vibrant Gauteng region, the brand is poised to redefine its approach to affordable mobile technology.

The new Ackermans Connect stores are located at the Golden Walk Shopping Centre in Germiston and at Chris Hani Crossing in Vosloorus. Here, customers can explore a diverse selection of cellular devices from well-known brands such as Samsung, Nokia, and Huawei, along with Ackermans’ in-house brand, Premio. It’s a tremendous leap for the century-old retailer that aims to cater to the diverse and evolving preferences of South African consumers.

Michael Grace, Ackermans’ Cellular Manager, expressed enthusiasm about this strategic venture. “After the success of our own cellular brand, Premio, launching our standalone stores felt like the natural next step,” he said. The idea has been in the pipeline for a while, and in February, the decision to move forward was made, marking a thrilling new chapter for the retail giant.

These locations were chosen wisely, as they rank among Ackermans’ most high-performing stores out of over 800 locations across South Africa and neighboring countries. Grace added, “2019 was a year of firsts for us. Alongside the opening of our first concept store in Sandton, we also celebrated launching the 800th Ackermans branch. It’s been a remarkable journey.”

The store openings are part of a broader strategy aimed at growth and expansion in the South African market. Grace shared that the company plans to add more Ackermans Connect stores across the country by September 2020, responding to the positive reception of these pilot locations. Furthermore, there’s a commitment to growing their accessories business, ensuring more accessibility of products across all Ackermans stores.

Through this initiative, Ackermans aims to “bring value to life,” a motto that emphasizes their commitment to providing high-quality products at affordable prices. As these new stores set to reshape the landscape of mobile retail in South Africa, shoppers can look forward to enjoying greater choice and accessibility.
