South Africa's Cupcake Day at Cresta Shopping Centre: A Sweet Success for Charity
This past Saturday, Cresta Shopping Centre transformed into a heartwarming hub of baked delights as it generously allocated two spaces for the annual National Cupcakes Day, organized by the incredible non-profit Cupcakes of Hope (COH). This local initiative aims to support children battling cancer, and this year’s event turned out to be a spectacular showcase of community spirit and generosity.
A delightful total of 3,250 cupcakes were whipped up by passionate bakers nationwide, drawing sweet-toothed shoppers eager to contribute to a fantastic cause. The turnout was phenomenal; not a single cupcake was left unsold by the end of the event! The event garnered widespread support, managing to raise an impressive R2,326,347—outperforming last year’s record of R2,278,525. Almost 2,000 bakers rallied together, with 114,291 cupcakes pledged online and 74 shopping malls hosting cupcake sales across South Africa. This outreach not only highlights the nation’s commitment to making a difference but also fosters a spirit of camaraderie among communities.
Sandy Cipriano, founder of Cupcakes of Hope, expressed gratitude to everyone involved, emphasizing the transformative power of collective effort. “We can’t all do great things, but we can do little things with great love. And that is what COH is all about. Thank you for helping us spread cupcake love all across South Africa.” The funds raised will provide vital assistance to children facing cancer, covering medical bills, transportation, and other essential needs. Since its inception in 2012, COH has supported over 10,000 children and families, thanks to the dedication of their Cupcake Angels.
