Africazine:

Lagos State is set to revolutionize driver’s licence processing with a new automated system by 2027.

The initiative aims to drastically cut down the time it takes for motorists to obtain new licences to just 30 minutes and renewals to about 10 minutes. This system is currently being tested and will also streamline vehicle documentation and number plate processing.

New Automated System to Enhance Driver’s Licence Processing

The Lagos State Government is introducing an automated system designed to expedite the process of obtaining and renewing driver’s licences. Permanent Secretary of the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency, Rasheed Muri-Okunola, revealed that the system will allow applicants to complete preliminary procedures from home before visiting designated centres for biometric registration.

This initiative is expected to significantly reduce the delays that have plagued motorists, who have often waited months or even years after making payments. The government has signed a concession agreement with a consultant to automate MVAA operations, aiming for a more efficient service.
