The 2026-2027 school year in Gabon kicks off with a renewed commitment to education. The government aims to enhance teacher training, expand digital education, and implement competency-based learning, building on a successful previous year that saw significant examination pass rates.
Gabon’s Education Agenda for 2026-2027
The Gabonese government is placing work, discipline, innovation, and excellence at the forefront of its education agenda. Education and Civic Instruction Minister of State Camélia Ntoutoume Leclercq outlined these priorities as classes resume nationwide on September 7. The previous academic year faced challenges due to social tensions, prompting adjustments to the school calendar and the establishment of a three-way dialogue framework.
This dialogue framework has proven effective, with 2,668 out of 4,000 identified administrative situations regularized, achieving a 66.70% completion rate. The government is also working to gradually place various categories of education workers on the state payroll.
Exam Results and Future Plans
National examination results from the last academic year demonstrate the effectiveness of Gabon’s educational strategies. The pass rates were impressive: 98.70% for the CEP, 66.27% for the BEPC, 85.55% for the general baccalaureate, and 92.29% for the technological and professional baccalaureate. These results reflect a commitment to improving educational outcomes.
For the upcoming year, the ministry plans to strengthen teacher training and expand digital education. The competency-based learning approach will now extend to Grade 9, emphasizing a shift in the teacher’s role to that of a facilitator of learning.
