Midvaal Local Municipality is empowering young girls through its inaugural Take a Girl Child to Work initiative.
This event, part of the Women’s Month programme, aims to inspire girls to explore careers in local government and public service. Twelve learners from local high schools participated, gaining valuable insights into municipal operations and career opportunities.

The Take a Girl Child to Work initiative is designed to create a platform for young girls to experience local government first-hand. By participating, learners from Meyerton High School, Rusoord Secondary, Hoërskool Dr Malan, and New Hope Secondary were introduced to various career paths available within the municipality.
Midvaal Mayor Peter Teixeira encouraged the participants to focus on their studies and aspire for a successful future. The initiative also paired learners with female mentors from different municipal departments, who shared their career journeys and daily responsibilities.
