Africazine:

Egypt’s crude oil production has reached a significant milestone, marking its highest level in nearly two years.

On July 25, 2026, Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi announced that this surge in production is attributed to settling partner dues, which has enhanced local output. In the first half of 2026, petroleum exports exceeded 2.3 million tons, valued at .3 billion, matching the total for all of 2025.

Egypt’s Oil Production Reaches New Heights

The recent increase in Egypt’s crude oil production is a result of strategic financial management and operational efficiency. The Alexandria Petroleum Company has played a crucial role in this growth, with operating rates rising to 80%. This boost not only meets local demand but also reduces the need for imports while expanding surplus exports.

In addition to crude oil, the refining sector has experienced a boom in 2026, driven by enhanced production and supply capabilities. The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) has implemented efficiency programs that have significantly increased the output of gasoline, jet fuel, and diesel across various refineries.

Key Developments in Refinery Projects

The Egyptian government is investing .5 billion in refinery development projects aimed at strengthening energy security and reducing import costs. Minister Badawi highlighted the importance of local execution in these projects, particularly during his inspection of the Alexandria Petroleum’s lube oil complex revamp.

One notable project involved restoring two 45-year-old boilers, which saved EGP 2 billion compared to purchasing new units. This initiative will also lower annual operating costs by EGP 30 million, all while maintaining a strong safety record.

Future Plans for Egypt’s Oil Sector

  • Continue advancing .5 billion in refinery development projects.
  • Expand international services based on local execution success.
  • Increase second-half 2026 petroleum exports to 2.5 million tons.

Egypt is making significant strides in boosting its oil production and refining capabilities.
