Nairobi County is making strides in enhancing surgical services through intensive training for medical personnel.

Over 150 doctors, nurses, biomedical engineers, and surgical residents participated in a two-day surgical skills workshop at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital. This initiative, held from June 19 to 20, focused on advanced techniques such as laparoscopy and therapeutic endoscopy, aiming to improve patient outcomes and reduce recovery times.

Workshop Enhances Surgical Skills in Nairobi

The Comprehensive Surgical Skills Workshop was organized by the Nairobi City County Government. Participants received hands-on training in modern surgical techniques designed to address critical gaps in public healthcare. Dr. Francis Kaara emphasized the importance of equipping frontline medical personnel with these skills to ensure quality care for patients.

Minimally invasive procedures, often referred to as keyhole surgeries, are becoming the standard for various surgical interventions. These techniques involve smaller incisions, leading to less pain and quicker recovery, which ultimately reduces hospital stays and healthcare costs.

Nairobi’s Commitment to Advanced Healthcare

County officials highlighted that the training will expand access to advanced surgical procedures in public hospitals. This initiative aims to reduce the need for patients to seek specialized treatment in private facilities. The commitment from both the county and national governments, led by Governor Johnson Sakaja and President William Ruto, focuses on improving healthcare services and modern medical technology access.

President Ruto is expected to commission an additional facility at Mama Lucy Hospital, further enhancing its capacity for specialized treatment and training. This development aligns with the county’s goal to strengthen public healthcare through continuous education and innovation.
