Vietnam is taking bold steps to enhance its technological landscape for the coming years.
On June 17, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung approved Decision No. 1091/QD-TTg, which outlines a project to establish large-scale domestic strategic technology enterprises from 2026 to 2030. The initiative aims to create at least ten enterprises, each generating a minimum annual revenue of US billion and holding at least one patent from a top intellectual property office.
Vietnam’s Ambitious Technology Enterprise Goals
The project focuses on developing digital infrastructure, a skilled digital workforce, and robust data systems. It also emphasizes strategic technologies and cybersecurity. By 2030, Vietnam aims to deploy at least six new high-capacity international submarine fiber-optic cable routes, with one fully invested and controlled by the country.
Additionally, the plan includes expanding 5G networks to cover 99 percent of the population, enhancing connectivity and technological access across the nation.
Strategic Technology and AI Development
These strategic technology enterprises are designed to master and commercialize key technologies, supporting national tasks in science, technology, and innovation. Vietnam also aims to position itself among the top three Southeast Asian countries for artificial intelligence research and development.
The initiative sets a goal of developing at least six AI systems trained on Vietnamese data, which will cater to essential public services and social needs. This effort will strengthen the country’s domestic AI capabilities and digital infrastructure.
