Morocco is taking decisive steps to secure its water future by planning the construction of 42 major dams by 2050.

Since 2021, Morocco has commissioned eight dams with a total storage capacity of 1.89 billion cubic meters. Currently, 14 additional dam projects are underway, including significant structures like the Beni Azimane dam and the Sidi Abbou dam.

Morocco’s Strategic Water Resource Management

Morocco’s ambitious agenda includes the construction of 42 major dams to address increasing water scarcity. The Ministry of Equipment and Water is actively overseeing these projects, which are crucial for the country’s water security.

Among the eight dams already commissioned, notable ones include M’dez in Sefrou and Koudiat Borna in Sidi Kacem. These structures are pivotal in enhancing the nation’s water storage capabilities.
