BW Energy is set to enhance its offshore production capabilities in Gabon and Brazil, aiming for over 100,000 barrels per day by 2028.
The company has approved new developments, including the Bourdon project in Gabon and an infill drilling campaign in Brazil. Combined, these projects hold approximately 68 million barrels of oil equivalent in reserves and are designed to leverage existing infrastructure for increased output.
BW Energy’s Ambitious Offshore Plans in Gabon
In Gabon, BW Energy plans to develop around 25 million barrels of gross reserves through a phased approach. This involves converting the former Jasmine Alpha rig into a wellhead platform with a 12-slot wellbay. The first oil from the Bourdon project is anticipated in the first quarter of 2028, initially from three wells.
The company has estimated a capital expenditure of approximately US0 million for the first phase of the Gabon project. This reflects BW Energy’s strategy of controlling costs while accelerating production from existing discoveries.
Brazil’s Golfinho Field Expansion
In Brazil, BW Energy has approved four new wells connected to the Golfinho floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility. This includes three wells in the Golfinho licence and one in the Camarupim licence. The development is expected to significantly boost production to about 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day starting in 2029.
The Brazil expansion is underpinned by an estimated 50 million barrels of 2P reserves. By utilizing existing production and gas export infrastructure, BW Energy aims to reduce upfront capital requirements and execution risk.
Next Steps for BW Energy’s Projects
- First oil from the Bourdon project expected in Q1 2028.
- Production boost from Brazil’s Golfinho area anticipated by 2029.
- Continued focus on phased developments to optimize returns.
BW Energy's strategic offshore expansions in Gabon and Brazil mark a significant step towards achieving sustainable production growth.
