Cambodia has been recognized as the top nation in the world for natural environment preservation.
The U.S. News & World Report ranked Cambodia first in the Natural Environment category, following the Seychelles and Slovenia. The Kingdom also placed 91st overall in the “Best Countries” index, which was led by Switzerland.
Cambodia’s Commitment to Environmental Protection
The ranking reflects Cambodia’s extensive efforts in environmental conservation. The country manages 73 protected natural areas, covering over seven million hectares, which is about 41% of its total land area. This commitment has been bolstered by stricter law enforcement aimed at preserving wildlife habitats and biodiversity.
Minister of Environment Eang Sophalleth emphasized that this recognition is a significant honor for Cambodia. The environmental policies established under former Prime Minister Hun Sen have laid a strong foundation for ongoing conservation efforts.
