Malawi is taking a significant step towards enhancing its digital infrastructure with the launch of a new data centre.

Sparc Systems has unveiled a facility in Lilongwe aimed at addressing the challenges of high foreign hosting costs and limited local infrastructure. This initiative is designed to foster homegrown innovation and strengthen local capacity in the ICT sector.

New Data Centre to Boost Local Capacity

The newly launched data centre by Sparc Systems is set to transform Malawi’s digital landscape. Managing Director Wisely Phiri emphasized that many organizations have been forced to host their data abroad due to the lack of affordable local infrastructure. This reliance on foreign systems not only inflates operational costs but also raises concerns about data ownership.

Phiri highlighted that the new facility will offer affordable hosting services, making it easier for both large enterprises and smaller firms to manage their data locally. This shift is crucial for promoting self-sustainability and innovation within the country.
