Africazine:

The eGabon-SIS project is revolutionizing healthcare in Gabon by expanding access to vital services in Ngounié Province.

This initiative aims to improve maternal health by introducing tele-echography technology to remote areas. The project has already begun deploying equipment in four pilot departments, including Mbigou, Malinga, Mimongo, and Mandji-Ndoulou, enhancing local healthcare facilities’ diagnostic capabilities.

Tele-echography Expands in Gabon’s Rural Areas

The eGabon-SIS project is focused on improving healthcare delivery in underserved regions. In Mbigou, health centers are now equipped with comprehensive kits that include an on-site printer and various accessories for printing diagnostic images. This advancement allows local healthcare providers to offer better maternal health services.

Training for midwives is also a key component of the project. Wilfried Pandja Youbi, a biomedical agent, is leading this training at the Regional Hospital of Mouila. The remote interpretation of exams by a gynecologist ensures that patients receive timely and accurate diagnoses.

Key Funding and Support for eGabon-SIS

The World Bank funds the eGabon-SIS project, which is technically supported by ANINF. This collaboration addresses significant public health challenges in Gabon, particularly the need for reducing medical evacuations and improving pregnancy monitoring in rural areas.

As the project expands, it sets a precedent for integrating traditional health services with modern technology, aiming to enhance the overall well-being of Gabonese citizens.

Future Steps for the eGabon-SIS Project

  • Continue expanding tele-echography services across Ngounié Province.
  • Implement further training programs for healthcare providers.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact on maternal health outcomes.

The eGabon-SIS project is a transformative step towards better healthcare access in Gabon.
