Health Minister Inspects Central Laboratories Complex and El Obour Hospital

The Egyptian healthcare sector is witnessing significant advancements with major infrastructure projects nearing completion.

Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar recently inspected the Central Laboratories Complex and El Obour General Hospital. The Central Laboratories Complex, covering 7,700 square meters, is part of a project estimated at EGP 1.375 billion for the first phase and EGP 2 billion for the second phase. Meanwhile, El Obour General Hospital, with a completion rate of 99%, is set to serve nearly one million citizens at a cost of EGP 520 million.

Progress on Central Laboratories Complex in Cairo

The Central Laboratories Complex is a key healthcare project in Cairo, designed to meet international standards for laboratory services. The complex spans a total project area of 40,000 square meters and is being developed in two phases. The minister highlighted that completion rates have exceeded 90%, indicating significant progress.

Trial operations for the complex are scheduled to begin in July 2026, following its expected completion by the end of April 2026. This facility aims to enhance laboratory services across the region, reflecting Egypt’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure.

El Obour General Hospital Nears Completion

El Obour General Hospital is another critical project, built on a total area of 16,700 square meters. It will feature 189 beds, including 122 inpatient beds, 47 intensive care beds, and specialized units for neonatal care and dialysis. The hospital is designed to cater to the healthcare needs of nearly one million citizens in El Obour and nearby areas.

With construction reaching 99% completion, the hospital is set to significantly improve healthcare access in the region. The estimated cost of EGP 520 million underscores the government’s investment in health infrastructure.
