Namibia’s mining sector shows a significant rebound in December 2025, with key indices reflecting strong production levels.

The Mining Production Composite Index surged by 24.8%, recovering from a 13.5% decline in November. Year-on-year, the index saw a modest increase of 0.6%, driven by higher outputs in diamonds, zinc, and uranium, despite a drop in gold production.

Namibia’s Diamond Production Index Soars

The Diamond Production Index experienced a remarkable rise of 47.6% in December 2025, bouncing back from a previous decline of 23.9%. Total diamond output reached 178,903 carats, significantly up from 121,211 carats in November and slightly surpassing the 178,890 carats produced in December 2024.

This recovery highlights the resilience of Namibia’s diamond mining sector, which has faced fluctuations in production levels. The increase in output reflects improved operational efficiencies and market demand.

Uranium and Zinc Production Indices Show Growth

In December 2025, the Zinc Concentrate and Contained Production Index rose by 39.1%, following a growth of 30.3% in the previous month. However, on a year-on-year basis, this index declined by 25.9%. Total production of zinc concentrate and contained zinc reached 7,231 tonnes, up from 5,200 tonnes in November but below the 9,752 tonnes recorded in December 2024.

The Uranium Production Index also grew by 21.5%, recovering from a 10.2% decline in November. Uranium output amounted to 1,058 tonnes, an increase from 870 tonnes in the previous month and higher than the 896 tonnes produced in December 2024.

Gold Production Faces Decline

  • The Gold Bullion Production Index fell by 11.9% in December 2025.
  • A total of 831 kg of gold bullion was produced in December 2025.
  • This was down from 944 kg in November and below 935 kg in December 2024.

Namibia’s mining sector is experiencing a notable recovery, particularly in diamonds and uranium production.
