Egypt Launches Trial Operations at Tahya Misr 1 Container Terminal

Egypt is taking significant strides to enhance its maritime transport capabilities with the launch of the “Tahya Misr 1” container terminal.

The trial commercial operations at Damietta Port mark a pivotal moment in Egypt’s ambition to become a regional logistics hub. The terminal boasts an annual handling capacity of 3.5 million TEUs, effectively doubling the port’s capabilities.

The “Tahya Misr 1” terminal features 1,970 meters of quays with depths reaching 18 meters and a vast 922,000-square-meter yard. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to upgrade Egypt’s maritime transport system, aligning with Egypt Vision 2030.

Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir emphasized the terminal’s role in maximizing Egypt’s strategic location and enhancing its global trade position. The project reflects the government’s commitment to developing integrated logistics corridors that connect production zones with seaports across the nation.

El-Wazir reaffirmed that Egypt will not sell its ports but will collaborate with international firms to enhance operational efficiency and global competitiveness.
