Boipelo Awuah Becomes First South African Skater with Car Sponsorship

Boipelo Awuah has made history as South Africa’s first sponsored skateboarder.

The 20-year-old from Kimberley has secured a car sponsorship with Chery Kimberley, becoming the highest-ranking African woman skateboarder. The sponsorship includes a brand-new Chery Tiggo 4 Pro and marks a significant milestone in her career.

Boipelo Awuah’s Historic Sponsorship Deal

Awuah’s sponsorship was officially announced during a handover event at the Chery dealership on January 23. Following the handover, a photo session took place at the Kumba Skate Plaza, a venue significant to her development as a skater.

The Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism highlighted the role of the Kimberley Diamond Cup (KDC) in launching Awuah’s career. Since the age of five, she has honed her skills at the skate plaza, benefiting from the opportunities provided by the KDC.

Achievements and Community Impact

Awuah has represented South Africa on the global stage, finishing 18th in women’s street skateboarding at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and fifth in the Grand Skate Tour 2025 in Moscow. Despite her achievements, she remains committed to her community through her 053 Fantasy Girls Skateboarding Foundation, where she teaches skateboarding to young girls.

On February 21, Awuah will host a 053 Girls’ Skate Workshop at the Kumba Skate Plaza, inviting girls of all ages to participate. This initiative reflects her dedication to youth development and empowerment.
