During a recent engagement with the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (CONTRALESA), Minister Hlabisa underscored the need for integrating traditional institutions into the evolving governance framework. This meeting, attended by Deputy Ministers and senior officials, aimed to reinforce collaboration between CoGTA and traditional leadership.

The Minister expressed a commitment to listening and learning from traditional leaders, recognizing their historical significance in governance. He stated that this platform allows for the exchange of ideas and constructive criticism, essential for strengthening traditional leadership.

Upcoming Consultative Meeting on Community Safety

Both Minister Hlabisa and Kgoshi Mokoena expressed concern over the 49 fatalities reported during the recent customary initiation season. They agreed on the necessity of prioritizing cultural preservation and life protection.

A broad consultative meeting is scheduled for February to enhance oversight and improve community safety measures. This initiative aims to address the long-standing challenges faced by traditional leaders and ensure better safeguards for communities.
