The African National Congress (ANC) recently celebrated a significant milestone: its 114th anniversary. This historic occasion took place on Thursday, with festivities occurring across South Africa, highlighting a century of dedication, resilience, and leadership in the pursuit of freedom and equality.

The celebrations were not limited to a single location; they spanned nationwide as supporters and party members gathered to honor the ANC’s founders and generations of activists. This illustrious journey began in 1912, during which the ANC has evolved into one of the leading political forces in South Africa.

This Saturday, the ANC will host a grand celebration in the North West Province, where national officials and members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) planned a comprehensive schedule of events to engage with communities and commemorate the rich history of the organization. The day’s proceedings include a wreath-laying ceremony at Bakwena Ba Morare, under the leadership of His Majesty Kgosi Gasebone, as well as acts of community outreach to emphasize the ANC’s commitment to service and development.

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa and Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula are set to be key figures in the celebrations, with Mbalula expressing reflections on the ANC’s founders and their spirit of struggle and resilience. “Today we celebrate 114 years of struggle, resilience, and commitment to the ideals of freedom, equality, and justice,” he said in a heartfelt message shared on his social media platform.

Other notable events include ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s visit to Kgosi Montshioa in the Ngaka Modiri Molema region, where he will meet with the Molema family, lay wreaths, and participate in a cake-cutting ceremony at 1 PM. ANC National Chairperson Gwede Mantashe will also make meaningful contributions by visiting newborns at Potchefstroom Hospital and engaging with the local community.

The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) has joined the chorus of voices celebrating this milestone, issuing statements that highlight the historic significance of the ANC’s formation and its ongoing mission of championing the rights of the African people. Their words reflect a deep sense of pride and a commitment to preserving the legacy of the liberation struggle, reminding members and supporters alike of the principles that founded the movement.

As festivities gear up, the community is invited to join the ANC at Moruleng Stadium to witness President Ramaphosa’s January 8 statement, which is expected to outline the party’s vision and goals for the coming year. This event promises to be a unifying moment for the ANC and its supporters, celebrating not just the past, but also the hopeful future of South Africa.
