Zambia Receives Much-Needed Humanitarian Aid from Russia: A Step Towards Food Security
In a generous display of solidarity, the Russian Government, in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), has donated humanitarian food assistance valued at a staggering two million US dollars to Zambia. This significant contribution, which comprises 93.8 metric tons of vegetable cooking oil and 648 metric tons of yellow split peas, is aimed at providing relief to the nearly two million Zambians currently in urgent need of food assistance.
Zambia’s Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, expressed her heartfelt gratitude during the donation ceremony. “This kind support from the Russian Government will go a long way in alleviating hunger in our communities,” she stated. She emphasized the gravity of the situation, revealing that approximately two million people are affected by food insecurity, with around 50 districts across nine provinces still grappling with the aftereffects of the 2023 to 2024 drought.
