DataGene’s August release highlights Stuart Tracy’s Holstein herd in Waratah Bay, Victoria, achieving the top spot nationally for Health Weighted Index (HWI) with a score of 342. The Parish family’s Jersey herd in Bambra also excelled, ranking third for Balanced Performance Index (BPI) at 210 and second for HWI at 152.

Stuart Tracy’s Holstein herd moved from second place in the April evaluation to first in August. This improvement is attributed to strategic sire selection from the Good Bull Guide, aligning with long-term breeding goals. The herd’s breeding program emphasizes traits such as animal health, mastitis resistance, and daughter fertility.
Utilizing female genomic testing and the Herd Data App, the Tracy operation has effectively raised its genetic baseline. The national Genetic Information Hub, known as GINFO, supports this genetic evaluation, providing a reference population for breeders.
Parish Family’s Jersey Herd Climbs the Ranks
The Parish family’s Jersey herd made impressive gains, rising from ninth to third for BPI and from sixth to second for HWI. Additionally, they improved from 12th to seventh nationally for the Sustainability Index. This progress underscores the benefits of combining herd genotyping with participation in GINFO, which enhances data reliability for genetic selection.
Victorian breeders Basil and Liam Ryan also made headlines with their heifer, Numeralla Bigsur 7662, achieving the highest HWI result for an animal in the Australian Holstein breed.
