South Africa secures significant funding to enhance healthcare and water supply.
The country has borrowed about R7.4 billion from the BRICS New Development Bank. This funding will support the construction of a new hospital and improvements to water supply systems in Limpopo and North West provinces.
New Hospital in Limpopo to Enhance Healthcare
Approximately R3.6 billion of the borrowed funds will be allocated to build a new 488-bed hospital in Polokwane, Limpopo. This facility aims to provide specialized treatment for serious illnesses.
In addition to patient care, the hospital will serve as a training center for doctors and healthcare workers, addressing the need for skilled professionals in the region.
Water Supply Improvements for Municipalities
Another R3.8 billion will be directed towards enhancing the Magalies Bulk Water Supply Scheme. This initiative is crucial for six municipalities in Limpopo and North West, where water demand exceeds supply.
About 2 million people are expected to benefit from this project, which aims to provide a more reliable water supply in areas facing significant shortages.
