Namibia is advancing its green hydrogen ambitions through strategic partnerships with China.
During a recent visit to Chengdu, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah engaged with executives from China National Chemical Engineering Corporation 7 (CC7) to discuss their collaboration on Namibia’s flagship green hydrogen project. CC7 has been awarded key contracts for the ammonia production facility set to begin in 2025, marking a significant step in the project’s development.
Namibia Strengthens Ties with Chinese Engineering Firm
The meeting brought together members of the Namibian ministerial delegation, Hyphen executives, and CC7’s leadership. Hyphen CEO Marco Raffinetti introduced the President to CC7 Chairman Long Haiyang, emphasizing the importance of their collaboration. Discussions focused on CC7’s role and the potential for deeper cooperation as the green hydrogen venture progresses.
CC7’s involvement is crucial, as they were awarded the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts for the ammonia production facility. This positions them as a principal partner in one of Namibia’s largest industrial investments.

Namibia’s government holds a 24% equity stake in Hyphen, showcasing its commitment to the green hydrogen project. The initiative is seen as a cornerstone of the country’s long-term industrialization and energy transition agenda. President Nandi-Ndaitwah also urged local businesses to explore international partnerships that can bolster domestic economic growth.
Raffinetti highlighted the strength of the partnership between Namibia and China, noting CC7’s world-class technical expertise and proven track record in large-scale projects. This collaboration is expected to drive the transformative green hydrogen project forward.
