Liberian Ambassador Presents Letter of Credence to ECOWAS President

The appointment of Liberia’s new ambassador to ECOWAS marks a significant step in regional diplomacy.

Ambassador John Ballout presented his letter of credence to ECOWAS President Dr. Omar Touray, emphasizing Liberia’s commitment to regional integration and support for ECOWAS initiatives. Ambassador Ballout’s Commitment to ECOWAS

During the presentation in Abuja, Ballout pledged Liberia’s full support to ECOWAS and reaffirmed the nation’s dedication to regional cooperation. He expressed that his appointment is a great honor and committed to actively participating in the work of the regional body.

Ballout aims to leverage Liberia’s recent election to a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council to promote Pan-Africanism and ECOWAS objectives. He stressed the need for collaborative efforts to tackle pressing issues within the region.

Liberia’s Concerns on Air Transport and Drug Abuse

Ballout raised significant concerns regarding ECOWAS’ decision to regulate domestic airline tariffs, emphasizing that affordable air connectivity is crucial for free movement and economic integration. He pointed out that air transport is vital for connecting people and economies across the region.

Additionally, he addressed the rising drug abuse cases among West African youth, urging the establishment of an ECOWAS Drug Enforcement Agency to combat cross-border trafficking. Ballout warned that individual member states lack the capacity to handle this issue alone and called for a united approach.
