Kano State Government seeks EU collaboration for sustainable development initiatives

The Deputy Governor of Kano, Murtala Sule Garo, emphasized the need for deeper partnerships in various sectors during a presentation to EU representatives. This initiative aims to improve urban infrastructure, education, healthcare, and more, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for citizens.

Kano State’s Vision for Sustainable Urban Development

During the presentation, Garo outlined Kano’s long-term vision for urban development, highlighting the state’s status as one of Africa’s oldest and fastest-growing commercial hubs. He acknowledged the challenges posed by rapid urbanization, including the increasing demand for infrastructure and economic opportunities.

Kano State has crafted a comprehensive Urban Development Strategy designed to guide growth in a coordinated and sustainable manner. This strategy is aligned with national development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals, showcasing a commitment to modern urban planning and improved infrastructure delivery.

Kano’s Appeal for EU Support in Key Sectors

The Deputy Governor appealed for the European Union’s support in critical areas such as education, youth employment, agriculture, and healthcare. He also requested technical assistance for reviewing Kano’s draft Public Private Partnership policy to enhance investment opportunities.

Garo expressed confidence that stronger cooperation with the EU would lead to shared prosperity and sustainable development, fostering closer ties between the peoples of Kano and Europe.
