Morocco Advances High-Speed Train Project Connecting Marrakech and Agadir

Morocco is advancing its high-speed train project, a key initiative for national connectivity.

The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdel Samad Qiyuh, announced that all technical and engineering studies for the high-speed train linking Marrakech to Agadir are complete. The project is estimated to cost approximately 55 billion dirhams, with construction dependent on securing financial resources and technical partnerships.

Completion of Technical Studies for High-Speed Train

The completion of all technical and engineering studies marks a significant milestone for Morocco’s high-speed train project. This ambitious initiative aims to connect Marrakech and Agadir, enhancing travel across the region. The geographical challenges posed by the High Atlas Mountains necessitate intricate engineering solutions, including the construction of tunnels and bridges.

Minister Qiyuh emphasized that the actual construction will begin once the necessary funding and partnerships are established. This strategic project is expected to transform transportation in Morocco, making it more efficient and accessible.

Morocco: Key figures on High-Speed Train Project

  • 55 billion dirhams
  • 30% progress on the Al Boraq line between Kenitra and Marrakech
  • First high-speed train expected by September 2029

Enhancing Urban Connectivity with Al Boraq Project

The Al Boraq project aims to improve rapid connectivity between major urban centers, including Casablanca and Rabat. Proposed stops at Mohammed V Airport and the Grand Stadium in Benslimane will facilitate easier access for travelers. This initiative aligns with Morocco’s national vision to enhance transportation infrastructure and reduce travel times.

The government’s commitment to improving rail connectivity is seen as crucial for economic growth and enhancing the travel experience for both citizens and tourists.

Next Steps for the High-Speed Train Initiative

  • Secure necessary financial resources
  • Establish specialized technical partnerships with the National Railway Office
  • Commence construction following funding acquisition

Morocco’s high-speed train project is set to revolutionize travel and connectivity across the nation.
