Ho Chi Minh City is setting ambitious goals for its future development, aiming to transform into a leading megacity by 2050.

The People’s Committee has approved a comprehensive plan for the city’s growth from 2025 to 2050, covering an area of approximately 6,772.59 sq.km. This plan includes a vision for economic development, environmental sustainability, and social equity, with a target of achieving an average GRDP growth rate of at least 10% per year.

The approved outline for Ho Chi Minh City’s General Planning emphasizes a strategic vision that extends 100 years into the future. This plan encompasses the entire administrative boundary and includes 168 administrative units, such as 113 wards and 54 communes. It also considers potential sea reclamation areas to meet economic development needs.

In addition to the city’s boundaries, the research scope includes neighboring areas like Dong Nai city and the provinces of Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, and Lam Dong, as well as relevant maritime spaces. The city aims to harmonize economic growth with environmental protection and social equity.
