The Angola-Namibia Power Inter-connector Project marks a significant step towards regional energy integration.
NamPower and Angola’s Rede Nacional de Transporte de Electricidade (RNT-EP) have signed an agreement for the ANNA project, estimated to cost N1 million. The project is set for completion in 2029 and aims to create a permanent electricity corridor between Namibia and Angola.
NamPower and RNT-EP Join Forces for Energy Security
The ANNA project involves constructing a nearly 200 km 400kV line from Namibia to the Cahama substation in Angola. The second phase will see a 270 km transmission line built from the Omatando substation to the Otjikoto substation. This initiative is crucial for connecting the Angolan grid to the Southern African Power Pool.
NamPower’s Managing Director, Kahenge Haulofu, emphasized that this partnership goes beyond mere agreements. It showcases a commitment to regional integration and sustainable economic development, aligning with the strategic priorities of both countries.
