Morocco is on a mission to revolutionize its digital landscape by 2030.

The government plans to connect 5.6 million households to fiber and achieve 85% 5G population coverage. Telecom operators are set to invest over .6 billion in 5G infrastructure by 2035, marking a significant step towards bridging the digital divide.

Morocco’s Ambitious Broadband Goals for 2030

Morocco is accelerating its broadband strategy with clear targets for the coming years. The government aims to connect 5.6 million households to fiber optics and extend 5G coverage to 85% of its population by 2030. This initiative was reaffirmed during a session at the Chamber of Representatives, where Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni presented the progress of the National Plan for Broadband and Ultra-Fast Broadband Development (PNHD).

As part of the PNHD, the government has completed the first phase by extending 2G, 3G, and 4G coverage to 10,690 rural areas out of a targeted 10,740. This achievement has significantly reduced the digital divide between urban and rural regions.

Investment and Infrastructure Development in Telecommunications

Telecom operators have already rolled out 5G services in over 50 cities, reaching approximately 7 million subscribers. To support network expansion, operators have committed to investing more than 80 billion dirhams (about .6 billion) by 2035. They aim for 45% population coverage by 2026 and 85% by 2030.

The National Fiber Optic Plan is also in place to enhance fixed connectivity, with a target of connecting 5.6 million households by 2030. The government is facilitating this effort through infrastructure sharing among operators and regulations mandating fiber integration in new real estate developments.

Next Steps in Morocco’s Digital Expansion

  • Launch of a second phase to expand coverage to 2,000 additional rural areas by 2026.
  • Deployment of satellite solutions (VSAT) in hard-to-reach regions.
  • Provision of a subsidy of 2,500 dirhams (about 0) per subscription for rural connectivity.

Morocco is poised to transform its digital infrastructure, ensuring connectivity for millions.
