Africazine:

Egypt is on a mission to transform Sinai into a sustainable agricultural hub, enhancing food security and regional integration.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced a year-long programme from April 2025 to April 2026. This initiative will cover 11,000 feddans, support over 2,100 families, and includes the distribution of 350,000 olive seedlings and 2,000 date palms.

Egypt’s Ambitious Agricultural Transformation in Sinai

The programme aims to boost productivity through subsidised inputs and mechanisation support. Minister Alaa Farouk emphasized the importance of collaboration with international partners, including the Food and Agriculture Organization and QNB Egypt. These partnerships will facilitate farmer training, small-scale project financing, and livestock development, benefiting more than 1,200 farmers and rural households.

Infrastructure development is a key component of this strategy. New agricultural service centres, water desalination initiatives, and a regional gene bank will improve resource management and crop resilience. Additionally, digital advisory tools and field-based extension programmes will enhance farmer capabilities and modernise agricultural practices.
